St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood | June 2025
Pavilion Ensemble has recently completed a new studio recording in collaboration with Apple & Biscuit Recordings, endorsed by The Max Trust and supported by King’s College London.
The session features two rarely heard choral-instrumental works composed during the Cirencester period of the composer’s life. Scored for voices and chamber ensemble, the music reveals a distinctive early style—combining expressive vocal writing, modal harmony, and intricate instrumental textures, including passages shaped through improvisation. One of the works receives its first professional realisation through this recording.
Recorded at St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood, in June 2025, the project brought together a flexible team of musicians committed to deep listening, creative risk-taking, and collaborative interpretation. The ensemble worked closely with producer Alex Barnes to explore the music’s layered sonorities and emotional breadth, with an emphasis on clarity, responsiveness, and expressive detail.
Post-production is currently underway, with further updates and release information to follow.
